This past Monday night I was up until three o'clock in the morning practicing card manipulation - or cardistry as it is sometimes called. As far as skills go, it isn't particularly useful, and there is almost no chance I will ever use it, except perhaps to entertain the children of friends, or any of my young cousins. It should at least be safer than juggling, from which my cousin Dylan (then three years old) picked up the temporary habit of throwing his toys in the air. I'm really, really sorry Andrea.
I am obsessed with learning new skills, acquiring information, and consuming media in any and every format I can get my hands on. My room is a clutter of instruments, books, vinyl records and cassettes, art supplies, fitness equipment, tools, skateboards, and other miscellany. Post-its are everywhere, with cryptic notes to myself regarding ideas for stories and shows, things to do, things to learn, albums I want to listen to, and books I need to read. They are largely indecipherable - even to me. "Adventure cafe construction scam." If anyone can figure out what that was supposed to mean, please email me.
Skill Junk is my attempt at instituting some much needed order on this habit of mine - my dark passenger (Dexter anyone? References and quotes are another thing of mine, and I'm fairly certain a sizable portion of my brain is dedicated to nothing but cataloging them. My posts will no doubt be peppered liberally with them, and I salute whoever picks up on it.) It will also be my platform for sharing the things I'm learning about, interesting sites I'm frequenting, books I'm reading, tutorials, et cetera. I can't be the only skill and information junkie out there.
I invite you to leave feedback, tell me what you would like to learn about, and ask me questions.
Hello.
